a single earring is fine
What we see most often
If yours isn't listed here, it almost certainly fits one of these categories. Bring it.
Snapped chains
Curb, rope, figaro, belcher — clasp gone, link broken in the middle, kinked beyond rescue. Doesn't matter. Gold is gold.
Single earrings
The other one disappeared into a hotel carpet years ago. The remaining one is still 9ct or 18ct and still has weight.
Bent and squashed rings
Caught in a car door, sized up so many times the band gave way, or simply too damaged to wear. We weigh the gold and price it as scrap.
Tangled scrap pile
That ball of fine chains nobody wants to untangle. Don't bother — we'll weigh the whole knot.
Broken charm bracelets
With or without the charms still attached. We separate gold from non-gold in front of you.
Damaged signet rings
Worn-through shanks, cracked engravings, missing stones. Still meaningful gold weight.
A bit of honest reassurance
People put off bringing broken gold in for years because they assume it'll be a hassle, or that we'll laugh at the state of it, or that it isn't worth the trip. None of that's true. Broken jewellery is the most common thing we buy. It tests the same, weighs the same and pays the same as anything else. You stay with your items the whole time, you see the scales and the test, and there's no obligation to sell at the end of it.
Things people ask before bringing it in
Is broken jewellery worth less than wearable jewellery?
For scrap-rated pieces — no. The gold weight is the same whether the chain works or not. Where wearable jewellery sometimes earns a small premium is on designer or branded pieces that have resale value as items rather than as gold. For everyday 9ct chains and rings, broken pays the same as intact.
Do I need to clean it or untangle it first?
No. Please don't try. We weigh and test as-is. A tangled bag is welcome — it speeds things up rather than slowing them down.
What about pieces with stones still set?
We weigh the piece, then deduct an estimated stone weight, so you're only paying for the actual gold content. We can return the stones to you if you'd like to keep them — particularly diamonds, where it's often worth checking the value separately.
Will you take very small amounts?
Yes. A single broken earring, a snapped clasp, a bent ring — bring it. There's no minimum weight.
Bag it up. Bring it in. Walk out paid.
