A private valuation service · St Helens
Selling an engagement ring is rarely a casual decision. We try to make the part that's our job feel calm.
Whether you've outgrown the original, inherited it, never wore it, or you're moving on from a chapter that's closed — we offer a private, considered valuation with no questions and no pressure to sell.
Situations we see most
An upgrade
Many couples come in together, looking to release the value of an original ring towards something larger or differently styled. We can value with both partners present, or just one — your call.
An inheritance
A ring left to you that doesn't suit your hand or your style. We'll talk you through what it's worth as a piece, what the diamond is worth on its own, and what the setting would realise as gold.
A relationship that ended
We treat this part of the work with care and discretion. There's no script, no questions, no eyebrow raised. Just a proper valuation and a quiet transaction.
How an engagement ring is actually valued
The figure you receive is the sum of three quite separate things. The diamond is assessed on its carat weight, cut, colour and clarity, plus certification (GIA, IGI or HRD) if you have it. The setting is weighed and tested for its gold or platinum content. Anything that adds brand or design value — a recognised maker, original packaging, a hallmark from a notable house — is considered separately and added on top where it applies.
We always run those three numbers in front of you, and we'll give you the honest comparison: what the ring is worth as a complete piece, versus what the diamond and setting would realise sold separately. Sometimes the two figures are close. Sometimes one is meaningfully better than the other. You decide which route to take.
Our discretion promise
"Private valuation booth. No photographs. No social-media-style 'before and after'. The ring stays with you the entire time, and the conversation goes no further than the room."
When you're ready, we're here.
Walk into Cash Generator on Church Street and ask for a private engagement-ring valuation. For higher-value pieces it's worth calling 01744 775978 ahead so we can prepare a quiet slot.
No appointment required for standard valuations. No obligation at any point to accept the offer.
Questions people quietly want to ask
Will you ask why I'm selling?
No. People sell engagement rings for a hundred different reasons — relationships end, relationships evolve, rings are inherited, tastes change. None of it is our business. We focus on the ring.
Do you buy the diamond and the setting separately?
Yes. The diamond is valued on its own four-Cs (carat, cut, colour, clarity) and certification if available. The setting is valued separately on its metal weight and any branded resale value. You can sell either, or both.
What about a ring without a certificate?
We assess uncertified diamonds in-house using gemological tools — a loupe, a thermal probe, and our experience. Where the stone is significant, we may suggest sending it for an independent GIA assessment first. We'll tell you when that's worth it and when it isn't.
Is everything kept private?
Completely. Engagement-ring valuations happen in our private booth, away from the shop floor. Nothing is photographed or shared, and you stay with the ring throughout.
